Bar Bodega Chiqui is a 1959 Sant Antoni bodega that runs a second life as Grado Sushi, serving vermouth from the barrel and traditional tapas alongside nigiri, sashimi and uramaki from the same kitchen.

Background

About Bar Bodega Chiqui

The Story

Bar Bodega Chiqui opened in 1959 as a classic Sant Antoni bodega selling wine from the barrel, house vermouth and traditional tapas. Three generations of the Riasol family have run the bar, and during the 2020 pandemic the third-generation daughter Sònia Riasol and her partner Douglas Alves began preparing takeaway sushi from the same kitchen under the name Grado Sushi. That experiment turned into a permanent second identity: behind the unassuming bodega façade, the venue now serves one of the most talked-about sushi menus in Sant Antoni.

The Cuisine

The kitchen operates as two concepts in one room. The bodega side serves traditional vermutería fare, house vermouth poured from the barrel, gildas, conservas, tuna and anchovy sandwiches, and daily Catalan plates. The Grado Sushi menu layers on nigiri, sashimi and uramaki using tuna toro, eel with foie, butter fish, torched salmon and seasonal fish, finished with Japanese technique and local ingredients.

The Team

Enric Riasol and Teresina Esteve lead the bodega as third-generation owners. Their daughter Sònia Riasol and partner Douglas Alves run the Grado Sushi kitchen, handling the Japanese side of the menu since 2020.
