Albert Raurich is a former elBulli head chef who has run Dos Palillos in Barcelona's El Raval since 2008 with his wife, Japanese sommelier Tamae Imachi. The restaurant holds one Michelin star (since 2012) and two Repsol Soles — the only Catalan restaurant at this Repsol level in the 2026 guide. He also runs the sibling Dos Pebrots, opened in 2017.
Biography
Early years
Born in 1970 in Barcelona, Raurich trained at the Escola d'Hostaleria de Barcelona. He worked briefly at Els Pescadors and El Café de l'Acadèmia before joining elBulli in Cala Montjoi.
Career
Raurich spent 11 years on the elBulli team under Ferran Adrià, the last seven as head chef. In 2008 he left to open Dos Palillos in Barcelona's El Raval with his wife, Japanese sommelier Tamae Imachi. The restaurant — a tapas concept built around Asian techniques (primarily Japanese, with Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai influences) using Mediterranean produce — earned its Michelin star in 2012 and has held it continuously since. In 2017 the couple opened Dos Pebrots, a sibling restaurant focused on the recovery of historical Mediterranean recipes from the same neighbourhood. Dos Palillos became the only restaurant in Catalonia to hold two Repsol Soles in the 2026 guide.
Philosophy
Raurich's cuisine is rooted in the technique he learned at elBulli but expressed as a fusion of Asian tapas culture with Catalan produce. He has described his approach as a search for the moment when Asian and Mediterranean traditions overlap rather than a deliberate fusion — letting the ingredients suggest the form.
