About Tandoori Station
The Story
Tandoori Station has cooked Pakistani and Indian food on Calle de José Ortega y Gasset since 2005, guided by chef Nadeem Siraj. The restaurant describes the idea as a train journey to India through its food, and the room plays along with decor inspired by traditional Indian trains, warm lighting and noble materials. It's set up for intimate dinners as much as group celebrations, with custom menus for groups and events.
The Cuisine
Pakistani and Indian, framed by the restaurant as the cuisine of the Mughal Empire: freshly ground spices, slow tandoor cooking for meat, fish and bread, and curries from mild to very hot.
From the Tandoor
The clay tandoor is the heart of the kitchen, cooking meats, fish and breads slowly for a texture and flavour of their own. From it come seekh kebab (minced lamb skewers with spices and herbs), lamb chops marinated in ginger and garlic, boti kebab of yogurt-marinated lamb, swordfish marinated in traditional spices, seafood, and a range of naans, including gluten-free versions of the makhni and garlic naans. To start there are samosas filled with spiced meat, onion and ginger, and onion bhajis in chickpea batter.
Curries and the Tasting Menu
The curry list runs from the creamy, mildly spiced butter chicken to a yogurt, tomato and coriander chicken curry, a very hot Goan chicken curry with lime, lamb madras, karahi gosht and murghi ka tikka masala. A tasting menu at €42.50 per person samples the tandoor and the curries for those who'd rather not choose, and the restaurant designs custom menus for groups and private celebrations.
