Background

About Run Run Run

The Story

Run Run Run (also styled Café Run Run Run) belongs to Grupo La Musa, the Madrid group behind La Musa Malasaña, La Musa Latina, Musa Chamberí, Limbo Tribunal and The Downstairs, among others. Its line is 'somos clean eaters': food that's organic, seasonal or from nearby, with eggs from the free-range hens of Finca Cabezamarta.

The Cuisine

Healthy, globe-trotting café cooking. Weekday mornings bring egg dishes (Turkish eggs, a California club bagel with marinated salmon, an 'Iron Man' plate with bacon and sweet potato, benedict with roast turkey and avocado hollandaise) and bowls. From 20:30 the carta turns to sharing plates: tuna-tartare pani puri, edamame with coconut and ají amarillo, artichoke and spinach fondue, short-rib dumplings, a sea-bass ceviche with passion-fruit leche de tigre, red chicken curry, wild rice with carabinero carpaccio and mushroom carnitas tacos.

Breakfast Combos

Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:30 there are set breakfasts at €18.50 that include a coffee or tea and orange juice, beer or wine: Benny's (eggs benedict, spinach salad, pumpkin cake and yogurt with passion fruit and granola), a shakshuka with pita and American pancakes, and lighter 'Healthy-ish' and protein-heavy 'Cachas' versions. Single egg plates run about €10.

Desserts Without the Sugar

Desserts are sweetened with sugar alternatives and made with unrefined flour: an avocado-lime cake, an oat mille-feuille with chocolate ganache and vegan apple chantilly, a dark-chocolate and sweet-potato brownie with vegan hazelnut ice cream, cheesecake and carrot cake (around €7). Ice cream comes from Mistura.

Practicalities

Open every day from 10:00, to 23:00 Monday to Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 18:00 on Sunday. The terrace carries a 10% supplement. Book online through Restoo.

Getting There

Plaza de Juan Zorrilla 1, in the Vallehermoso barrio of Chamberí, a quiet residential square; Islas Filipinas and Canal are the nearest metro stations.

Nearby

Vallehermoso is a residential barrio in northern Chamberí, anchored by the Mercado de Vallehermoso and the streets around it. The eating mixes long-standing neighbourhood spots with newer kitchens that have moved in as the area has gentrified, and it stays walkable and low-key rather than a destination in itself.
