Background
About Los Remos
The Story
Los Remos is the second seafood house of Miguel García Gómez, the León-born fish wholesaler who founded La Trainera on Calle Lagasca in 1966. His family had always been in the fish trade, and he held stall number 38 at Mercamadrid before moving into restaurants; after La Trainera he opened Los Remos out on the A-6 in El Plantío, specialising in Cantabrian fish and shellfish. The city of Madrid gave him its Medalla al Mérito Turístico in 2011, and he died in April 2016, aged 92. The Guía Repsol describes it as a restaurant de toda la vida with updated décor, well-spaced tables and very good service, and lists it as recommended.
The Cuisine
Mediterranean and marinera cooking, mostly fish, shellfish and meat: arroz con bogavante and other rice dishes, salpicón de marisco, almejas de Carril, rodaballo done the house way, chuletón de vaca, and shellfish served raw, boiled or a la plancha. The wine list runs to more than 500 references.
The Terrace and the Rooms
The terrace is the draw: open-air in good weather and closable under a motorised sliding roof when it isn't, so it works year-round. Inside there are several dining rooms surrounded by light and greenery, from intimate corners to fully private salons. The main room, recently refurbished with large windows, seats about 100, and private rooms take groups from 12 to 200, which makes it a regular choice for communions, business lunches and family celebrations. It closes on Sunday and holiday evenings and for a summer break in August.
