Background

About Los Arcos de Ponzano

The Story

Los Arcos de Ponzano opened in 1952 and calls itself 'the classic of Ponzano'. It still cooks the old way, in its own words: with time, slow fire and first-rate produce, for more than 70 years.

The Cuisine

Castilian home cooking: roast suckling pig and milk-fed lamb, and a cocido madrileño with Valseca chickpeas, slow-cooked broth and the best cuts of meat, vegetables and embutidos, served by the vuelco. There's also a bar carta and a menú del día.

Getting There

On Calle Ponzano in the Almagro area of Chamberí, one of Madrid's best-known streets for tapas and going out.

Nearby

Almagro is embassy Madrid: broad streets, old money, and a hush the rest of the centre does not have. The restaurants match, with polished rooms, careful service and kitchens that do not need to shout. It sits between Chueca and Salamanca without quite belonging to either.
