Background
About La Quinta Bar
The Story
The bar opened as La Quinta del Sordo, named after the country house on the outskirts of old Madrid where Goya lived in his last years in Spain and painted the Black Paintings, which stood near here. Its founder, Rocío Pantoja, an art-history graduate who moved to Puerta del Ángel from Toledo, set out to make a neighbourhood café with care and local produce, buying meat from a butcher in the Mercado de Tirso de Molina and fruit and fish from barrio shops. It now trades as La Quinta Bar and holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol.
The Cuisine
Café and bar food done carefully: breakfasts and brunch, raciones such as calamari rings with squid-ink alioli, bravas and seasonal croquetas, salads, sandwiches, focaccia, homemade cakes and, above all, burgers, with vegan and coeliac options.
The Burgers
The house burger is the star: beef chosen and minced for the bar at the market, then marinated and portioned in-house, served on brioche with leaves, mayonnaise, red onion, tomato and crispy onion. Variations have included a cheeseburger, a bacon 'GrandBurguer', an egg burger, a Memphis with Colombian-style shredded beef, a vegan burger, and a burger of the month that changes every 30 days. The Guía Repsol simply recommends the hamburguesa.
Hours
La Quinta Bar opens Thursday and Friday evenings from 20:00 to midnight, and Saturday and Sunday for brunch and lunch from 11:00 to 16:00 and again from 20:00 to 00:30; it closes Monday to Wednesday. It's small, so book on 910 34 34 00.

La Quinta Bar Dining Experience
Warm and homely: big windows, warm lighting, wooden furniture, plants and flowers, old photographs, cushions and little tables with books. It's pet-friendly, good for groups, and it has long been active in the neighbourhood, from local artists' exhibitions on its walls to events with other businesses in the area.

Calle de Juan Tornero 41, in the Puerta del Ángel barrio of the Latina district, west of the Manzanares, near Puerta del Ángel metro (line 6).
Nearby
Puerta del Ángel sits across the river from the old city, and it has changed faster than almost anywhere in Madrid. The eating is independent, plant-leaning and priced for locals, in rooms that are still small enough to feel personal. Catedral de la Almudena and Palacio Real de Madrid are the view back east.
