Egeo Chamberí is the Chamberí branch of Egeo, a small Greek group that started as a Lavapiés take-away more than ten years ago. The room takes its cue from classical Greek aesthetics in a contemporary design, and the kitchen does fresh, handmade Greek cooking from the same carta the other branches share.

Background

About Egeo (Chamberí)

The Story

Egeo runs four venues across Madrid and Valencia, and the group started as a small take-away in Lavapiés more than ten years ago. The Chamberí branch is designed around the aesthetics of classical Greece in a contemporary key.

The Cuisine

The kitchen does healthy Mediterranean food, fresh and made by hand. Egeo imports Greek staples like DOP cheeses and yogurt, lists ingredients and allergens on its menus, and keeps a wide vegetarian selection.

From a Lavapiés Suvlakería

Egeo began more than ten years ago as a small take-away in Lavapiés inspired by the suvlakerías of Athens, and that counter on Calle San Carlos is still the heart of the project. The group has since added Malasaña (a Cycladic-style island taberna), Ruzafa in Valencia and this Chamberí room, designed around the aesthetics of classical Greece. The name comes from Aegeus, the mythical king of Athens who threw himself into the sea when his son Theseus forgot to hoist the white sail, giving the Aegean its name. Everything is made from scratch daily, with no pre-cooked products, using fresh local produce and Greek imports such as PDO cheeses, yogurt, spices, craft beers and wines.

Mezedes, Souvlaki and Menus

The 2026 carta starts with mezedes to share: tzatziki, melitzanosalata, Santorini fava, spicy tyrokafteri or all four with pita, a Cretan dakos-inspired salad with PDO pichtogalo, the classic horiatiki, and house-fermented cabbage. Souvlaki and gyros menus (chicken, pork, pumpkin or chickpea fritters, Greek sausage, halloumi, mushrooms, or thin-sliced beef lomo alto) come with fries or a mini Greek salad and a drink, and there's a traditional tasting menu for two or more with salad, dips, moussaka or meatballs, a grill portion and baklava, portokalopita or Greek yogurt. Vegetarian, vegan, keto and gluten-free options are marked.

Experience

Egeo (Chamberí) Dining Experience

The design nods to classical Greece but stays contemporary, a sit-down room rather than the take-away counter the Egeo group started from in Lavapiés more than ten years ago. The format stays modern and informal, built around fresh, handmade Mediterranean cooking with a wide vegetarian selection.

Getting There

Egeo's Chamberí branch is on Calle de Santa Engracia, in the Trafalgar pocket of the Chamberí district, a calm, residential-feeling shoulder between Malasaña and the wider avenues.

Nearby

Trafalgar is the calm shoulder between Malasaña and the wider avenues, residential enough to feel lived-in and central enough to walk out of. The eating skews to neighbourhood favourites and small confident kitchens rather than destinations. It gets quieter, and better value, the further you go from Gran Vía.
