The Story

Grupo Aroy Thai opened its first Thai restaurants in Madrid in 2011 and now runs Aroy Thai at Heron City, Nuevos Ministerios and Pozuelo, plus Royal Thai in Las Tablas. 'Aroy' is Thai for tasty, and the group says its kitchen teams are made up entirely of cooks from Thailand.

The Cuisine

Thai cooking across starters, soups, salads, stir-fries, curries, rice and noodles and fish, which the group frames as a light, balanced play of sour, salty, sweet and spicy. Vegetarian options are on the menu.

The carta

Starters include chicken satay (€7.90), prawn rolls with plum sauce, vegetarian spring rolls (€5.90), fresh prawn and avocado rolls and herbed seafood cakes, or a mixed platter for two at €16.90. Tom yam and tom kha soups run €7.50 to €8.50. Salads include laab kai, yam nua with beef, duck nam tok and som tam with prawns (€11.50 to €13.90), and the Isaan-style stir-fry is €12.90 with chicken or €17.50 with beef or prawns.

A tasting menu for a minimum of two costs €29 per person, VAT included but drinks and coffee extra: glass noodles with chicken and prawns, a mixed fried platter, pad thai with prawns, grilled duck breast in red curry with pineapple, grapes and lychee, prawns in green curry, beef with oyster sauce, jasmine rice and a Thai-style dessert.
