Background

About Portacos

The Story

Portacos opened in 2021 on the outer side of the Mercado de Numancia in Vallecas, founded by cook Andrés Federico Rodrigues Fuentes and his wife María de los Ángeles Yánez, both Venezuelan and both trained in fine dining. Six months after opening it won a Solete in the Guía Repsol. In 2023 it took the Taco de Oro and second place for best taco in Madrid with its panceta taco, and in 2025 it received the Sello Copil, the authenticity seal awarded by the Casa de México en España. Together with its neighbour Valletako, it has turned the market into a stop for Mexican food lovers.

The Cuisine

Tacos, antojitos and a bar. The tortillas are 100% corn, white or blue, and the house flags them as gluten free. The carta runs to panceta tacos, totopos, a taco gobernador and plantain, with tres leches for dessert. Guacamole is made with avocado, jalapeño, red onion, lime juice and coriander. The drinks run micheladas mixed on the spot, mezcal, tequila, Mexican beer and margaritas in versions including clásica, tamarindo, flor de Jamaica, coco, jalapeño and siete chiles.

The Team

Andrés Federico Rodrigues Fuentes cooks; his wife María de los Ángeles Yánez runs the business with him. They respect tradition but also make 'tacos de autor' fused with Spanish cooking, as he puts it.

Experience

Portacos Dining Experience

A small local room rather than a destination dining room: good for groups, good for families, a terrace, cocktails and vegetarian options. The bar does a lot of the work here, with micheladas mixed to order and margaritas going off in several directions at once.
