Ugarit Bruniquer is a Syrian restaurant in la Vila de Gràcia, founded by Hani Sarkis and one of five Ugarit locations in Barcelona.

Background

About Ugarit Bruniquer

The Story

Ugarit is a Syrian restaurant group founded by Hani Sarkis, who moved from Syria to Barcelona and opened the first location to share the food of the Levant with the city. The Bruniquer 37 address is one of five Ugarit restaurants in Barcelona, alongside Plaza Joanic (Bruniquer 69), Amrit (Verdi 18), Sants and Poblenou. The group takes its name from the ancient Syrian coastal city.

The Cuisine

The menu is rooted in Syrian home cooking: mezze spreads of hummus, mutabbal, mohamara and labne; tabbule and fattuch salads; warak inab and falafel; shawarma, xix tawuk and kafta either as tapa, full plate or combinado; and grilled meat skewers from the brasa. Vegetarian and vegan options are substantial, entire sections of the carta are plant-based.

The Team

Ugarit is the project of Hani Sarkis, who left Syria for Barcelona and built the restaurant around the recipes he grew up with. The dining room combines Syrian pendant lanterns, archival photographs of Palmyra and a limestone relief of a Syrian sculpture with Thonet-style chairs and red banquettes.
