Semon was founded in 1962 by Maria Vidal as one of Barcelona's first gourmet delicatessens. After the original company went bankrupt due to over-expansion, brothers Paulino and Pedro Robles -- who had worked at Semon for 40 and 20 years respectively -- rescued the business by winning the creditors' auction in 2015. They maintained the beloved business model while raising the quality of both service and products. Today Semon operates as a gourmet shop, restaurant (L'Indret de Semon), and catering service, having served over one million guests.
The Cuisine
Chef Jose Sansano, trained at La Boqueria's Bar Central and the Hofmann School of Hospitality, leads a kitchen focused on market-fresh Mediterranean cuisine with artisanal, seasonal, and local products. The menu evolves with the season and features dishes like salt-cured salmon, partridge salad with mushrooms in escabeche, lobster coca with roasted vegetables, Cerdanya trinxat, and legendary croquetas. Everything on display in the gourmet shop can be tasted in the restaurant.

Brothers Paulino and Pedro Robles lead the operation -- Paulino behind the scenes ensuring everything runs smoothly, Pedro on the restaurant side along with Ana Robles and Ana Alvaredo. Chef Jose Sansano brings training from Hofmann and La Boqueria.
