Background

About Gaig Barcelona

The Story

Gaig Barcelona is the daytime Les Corts home of the Gaig family, whose Barcelona culinary lineage traces back to Taberna d'en Gaig, established in 1869. Chef Carles Gaig, the fourth-generation patriarch, relaunched the family's Restaurant Gaig in 1989 and earned a Michelin star in 1993. The present site on Carrer de la Nau Santa Maria opened in 2019 as an expansion of the family's Gaig a Casa takeaway concept. Daughter Núria Gibert and grandson Marc Madina Gibert represent the fifth and sixth generations.

The Cuisine

The kitchen serves traditional Catalan cooking built around the family's heritage recipes. The signature canelons Gaig with truffle cream has been on family tables since 1869, and the arròs de colomí (squab and porcini rice) is another heirloom dish. The carte rotates seasonally and includes anchovies from L'Escala, Palamós prawn carpaccio, wild sea bass, fricandó with moixernons mushrooms, and a tasting menu at 95 euros per person.

The Team

Chef and owner Carles Gaig leads the family operation alongside his wife Fina Navarro and daughter Núria Gibert. Josep Armenteros is the executive chef and Daniel Alonso the head chef of the Barcelona kitchen.
