About Futami

The Story

Futami opened in December 2012, founded by an unlikely partnership: Daisuke Kigawa, a Tokyo-born sushiman trained in San Diego, and Toni Durban, a Catalan ex-mechanic married to a Japanese woman. The interior was designed by KOBFUJI Architects (Yoshihide and Kaoru Kobanawa), Japanese architects based in Barcelona, who created a minimalist space inspired by the waves of Japan's Seto Inland Sea, with CNC-cut birch plywood panels behind the sushi counter.

The Cuisine

Daisuke Kigawa and Toni Durban serve authentic Japanese cuisine specialising in fresh fish sushi, nigiri, maki, temaki, and sashimi. The menu also features cooked dishes such as kakiage and katsudon, along with a selection of sakes. A weekday midday menu is available, and takeaway is offered.

The Team

Chef-owners Daisuke Kigawa (Tokyo-born itamae) and Toni Durban work together at the sushi counter, preparing dishes in front of diners. Japanese servers staff the dining room. Google reviewers give it 4.7/5 from 618 reviews.
