Background

About Flash Flash

The Story

Flash Flash opened in 1970, founded by four friends from Barcelona's creative scene: architect Alfonso Milá, Cecilia Santo Domingo, photographer Leopoldo Pomés and Karin Leiz. Their idea was a restaurant built around the largest and most varied tortilla menu in the city, with a kitchen that never closed during service hours and design to match. Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá designed the white minimalist interior; Leopoldo Pomés shot the life-size silhouette images on the walls, with Karin Leiz as the original 'Flash Flash girl' now synonymous with the restaurant.

The Cuisine

The menu lists more than fifty different tortillas alongside the house burgers, salads and a rotating selection of daily specials drawn from Mediterranean, market-fresh cooking. Tortillas run from classic Spanish potato to sweet versions for dessert. The kitchen runs non-stop from 13:00 to 23:00, which makes Flash Flash one of the few Barcelona restaurants serving a full menu through the afternoon.

The Team

Chef Paco López Moreno leads the kitchen, preparing the Spanish potato tortilla and daily specials that keep the tortillería on its menu. The dining room pairs the kitchen with a salad bar added in 2014 by Llamazares Pomés Arquitectos, and M68 lamps designed by Miguel Milá.

Experience

Flash Flash Dining Experience

The dining room stays close to its 1970 design: a white minimalist interior by Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá, punctuated by life-size black silhouette murals shot by Leopoldo Pomés, with red M68 pendant lamps by Miguel Milá overhead. A salad bar added by Llamazares Pomés Arquitectos in 2014 is the only major intervention in five decades. Close-set tables, chatty service and a room that fills through the afternoon non-stop give it the feel of a neighbourhood canteen that never quite left the sixties.
