The Story
Can Marti began as a simple cantina and merendero (snack bar and picnic spot) in the Collserola mountains above Barcelona. In 1987, the father of current owner Santi Lopez-Balcells converted it into a proper restaurant. Now operating as Nou Can Marti, the 18th-century masia draws locals, hikers, and cyclists to its mountain terrace, particularly during calcot season from November to April.
The Cuisine
The Can Marti kitchen team cooks over a wood-fired grill using locally sourced hardwood charcoal. The menu features 45-day dry-aged beef rib steak, ribeye, Iberian pork abanico, lamb chops, char-grilled octopus, and a range of butifarra sausages. Calcots are the seasonal highlight from November to April. Starters include house bravas, escalivada, tomato plates with Aragón olives and Figueres onion, and Catalan salads. The grill is the heart of the kitchen.
