Background
About Can Fusté
The Story
Miguel Plaza founded Can Fusté on June 13, 1973 in Les Corts, a short walk from Camp Nou. After his death in 1989, his daughter María -- who had been studying medicine -- returned to run the restaurant alongside her husband Carlos Fernández, and the two still lead the dining room today; their son Carlos Jr. joined the team more than five years ago, making the restaurant a three-generation family business. Can Fusté entered Barcelona folklore during the 1981 Quini kidnapping, which began at the parking entrance next to the restaurant -- the dining room became the operations centre for the rescue. Photos and dedications from Barça players, coaches, journalists and public figures line the walls.
The Cuisine
Chef Isaac Aragall, who trained at Michelin-starred Via Veneto, leads a kitchen built around Mediterranean market cuisine: a short list of "Clásicos de Can Fusté" -- jamón ibérico de bellota from Guijuelo, Russian salad, melted Iberian-ham croquette, Prat artichokes, old-style cannelloni, kid-goat cutlets al ajillo, callos "de mi madre", beef tenderloin with Café de Paris butter -- alongside daily off-menu suggestions that change with what the market delivers. Strengths run to fresh fish and shellfish (coastal mackerel in escabeche, flame-seared hake with horseradish meunière, cod with Mallorca sobrasada, red prawns, Delta razor clams), rice (langostino de Sant Carles, espardenyes with pork trotters) and knife-cut steak tartare.
The Team
María Plaza is the soul of Can Fusté, having dedicated her life to the restaurant after her father's passing -- she is the gerente, while her husband Carlos Fernández runs the dining room as jefe de sala. Chef Isaac Aragall brings fine-dining technique from Via Veneto to the family's market-driven philosophy, supported by long-serving kitchen staff (including the buñuelos de bacalao made by Rosa).
