Background
About Batea
The Story
Batea opened in la Dreta de l'Eixample as a modern take on the Galician marisquería, a seafood house without the stiffness of the traditional format. The restaurant comes from the same team behind Besta, the Galician restaurant in the Eixample. Chef Manu Núñez trained at the Centro Superior de Hostelería de Santiago, spent time at El Amparo and Casa Solla, competed on Top Chef 2017, and ran Arume in El Raval before a formative period in Scandinavia, working at Gastrologik, Ekstedt, and Nook. His time in Nordic kitchens shaped the minimalist, product-first approach that defines Batea. The cocktail programme is run by Marta Morales, who trained with master bartender Paco Bretau and worked at Soho House Barcelona and a hotel in Stockholm. Michelin has listed the restaurant as Selected; the Repsol Guide recommends it.
The Cuisine
Batea describes itself as a marisquería bistró, combining the best of the Atlantic and Mediterranean pantry in a sharing format that is deliberately informal and accessible. The menu is short and seasonal, with Galician and Catalan produce as the backbone. Standout dishes include Galician oysters (nº2), the mariscada fría (a rotating seafood platter on a two-tiered stand), langostino de Vinarós, tortilla de Betanzos with ibérico pork, and arroz mar y montaña with squid and picaña. The cocktail list, led by Marta Morales, is seasonal and vegetable-forward.
The Team
Batea is led by chef Manu Núñez, who brought a Nordic-influenced minimalism to Barcelona's seafood scene after stints at Gastrologik, Ekstedt, and Nook in Sweden. The bar and cocktail programme is directed by Marta Morales, who trained with Paco Bretau and worked at Soho House Barcelona and in Stockholm. Together they run the kitchen and front of house of both Batea and the sister restaurant Besta.
