Biography
Early years
Núñez is a Galician chef who trained at the Centro Superior de Hostelería de Santiago de Compostela. He cooked at El Amparo and Casa Solla, two of the most respected addresses in Galician fine dining.
Career
Núñez moved to Barcelona and opened Arume in El Raval, a Galician restaurant that won the Tapa of the Year in Catalonia in 2015. He later explored Nordic traditions during a period working in Sweden. In February 2021 Núñez, his partner Rocío Rodríguez, and Catalan chef Carles Ramon opened Besta on Carrer d'Aribau in the Eixample — a project conceived as a gastronomic crossover between Catalonia and Galicia, blending Atlantic and Mediterranean cuisines using Galician seafood and local Catalan market produce. Besta carries one Repsol Sol and was named T de Oro of Catalonia.
Philosophy
The cooking at Besta sits at the intersection of two coastlines: Atlantic Galician seafood and Mediterranean Catalan produce. The format is intentionally casual but rooted in fine-dining technique — a high-level neighbourhood restaurant rather than a tasting-menu room.
