Background
About Basilea Restaurant
The Story
Founded in 2002, Basilea is a genuinely Swiss restaurant specialising in fondues and raclettes made with 100 percent Swiss cheeses. Sitting on the border between Horta-Guinardó and Eixample Dret, the small dining room is wrapped in exposed brick walls and decorated with images of the Swiss city that lends the restaurant its name. More than two decades in, it remains one of the few places in Barcelona dedicated to Alpine cheese cookery.
The Cuisine
Basilea builds its menu around sixteen varieties of Swiss cheese fondue, from the classic Moitié-moitié to versions made with Tête-de-moine, Sbrinz, ceps, morels, and truffle. Two raclette options serve melted Swiss raclette cheese over steamed potatoes, with bacon or a fuller selection of marinated meats and vegetables. Two meat fondues, Bourguignonne and Vigneron, are cooked at the table in oil or wine stock with four house salts and compound butters. Desserts stay Swiss, with Engadiner Nusstorte, Vermicelle, and a chocolate fondue served with seasonal fruit.
The Team
Basilea is an independent, family-run Swiss restaurant. Specific chef or ownership details are not published by the restaurant.
