Background

About Bar Bocata

The Story

Bar Bocata opened in January 2024, founded by childhood friends Quim Crespo and Oriol Fernandez Massaneda, both from Banyoles and in their early thirties. They visited over 100 locations before settling on Travessera de Gràcia 86. Their vision was to create a modern-day version of Barcelona's legendary cultural gathering spots like Els Quatre Gats -- a meeting place for Generation Z creators, influencers, journalists, and athletes. Interior designer Oriol Gallart created the retro space with a Marc Coderch painting presiding over the main room. The concept has expanded to a second location on Av. Diagonal (opened February 2026) and was selected for the Barcelona-El Prat Airport food hall.

The Cuisine

Chef Lucas Urmeneta, also a partner in the business, leads the kitchen with market-based traditional Catalan and Spanish cooking. The star dish is the pincho de tortilla, described as extra juicy with caramelized onion. The short menu features gildas matrimonio, macarrones, canelons, capipota, bocadillos with butifarra from Banyoles, pan con tomate, and seasonal slow-cooked dishes like sofrito de garbanzos con sepia and alcachofas con holandesa. Daily specials rotate through the week. Fork breakfasts and flautas with ham or fuet are served in the mornings. A daily lunch menu is available for around 15.50 EUR.

The Team

Co-founders Quim Crespo and Oriol Fernandez Massaneda bring hospitality and marketing backgrounds to the project. Chef Lucas Urmeneta handles the kitchen with experience across restaurants in Spain. Service is led by Sofia Roda. The restaurant has attracted a celebrity following including FC Barcelona figures.
