Background
About AlNorte
The Story
AlNorte opened in early 2019 as a small bar de tapas in la Vila de Gràcia working with small producers, artisans and family businesses from the towns of northern Spain. The project centres on the origin of its raw materials, drawing inspiration from the combined larder of sea and mountains across Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria.
The Cuisine
The kitchen focuses on a concise selection of northern Spanish tapas and sharing plates, with boards of artisan cheeses and cured meats (cecina, chorizo, charcuterie) alongside weekly specials from traditional recipes. Drinks lean into DOP wines, natural Asturian cider (sidra), vermouth, patxarán and a short list of craft beers from the north.
The Team
AlNorte is independently run by Mónica, Andrea and Estrella Justo. Estrella, a Galician who trained as a forest engineer in Pontevedra before moving to Barcelona, also founded Ego Galego, the Galician produce shop in Gràcia that preceded AlNorte. The small team keeps the format simple and product-led, with weekly-changing suggestions reflecting what they bring back from producers across the north.

A wonderful group joined us for vermouth at the bar — thanks for the day, already planning the next one.

The Novales lemons from Cantabria: a citrus unique to northern Spain, grown in a town sheltered by mountains and blessed by its microclimate.

Sunday vermouth session from 12:30 — open to everyone, hosted by our friend @martacillan at the bar.

Friday Gastronómico: filetes rusos in sauce. Inspired by the Russian pintxo at Itxaropena in Hondarribia — a wonderful dish.
