Departure Coffee Co.
Xavi and Raquel opened Departure in 2017 in a former carpentry workshop on a tiny Raval street, and kept the wood and vintage soul intact. There's no counter walling the barista off from you: espresso runs on SlowMov beans while the filter bar rotates guest roasters through Chemex, V60, Aeropress and French press. Note the no-laptop policy; this room is for talking.
Background
About Departure Coffee Co.
The Story
Xavi and Raquel opened Departure Coffee Co. in 2017, on a tiny street in El Raval, in a space that used to be a carpentry workshop and they kept that spirit, filling the room with wood and vintage touches rather than gutting it. The setup is deliberately open: a communal table and no counter walling the barista off from you, which makes it feel more like a conversation than a transaction. Espresso is dialled in around beans from Barcelona roastery SlowMov, while the filter side stays curious, rotating national and international guest roasters through the Chemex, V60, Aeropress and French press. Alongside the coffee there are homemade cakes and cookies, toasts and sandwiches, and a matcha latte. Walls double as a rotating gallery for local artists, and the couple also run specialty-coffee courses. It has quietly become a reference point for coffee lovers in the city.

Experience
Departure Coffee Co. Dining Experience
An artsy, industrial little room on a quiet Raval street, with reclaimed wood, vintage details and walls that rotate work by local artists every few weeks. A big communal table and the lack of a counter between barista and guest keep it conversational helped along by a no-laptop policy. There's also outdoor seating, and the coffee is joined by homemade cakes, toasts and sandwiches.
