Background
About La Terraza del Central
The Story
La Terraza del Central sits on the eighth floor of the Grand Hotel Central, high above Via Laietana in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. It's the rooftop of a 1920s Noucentisme building — designed by Adolf Florensa and commissioned by Francesc Cambó — and it wears that history openly: at sunset the lighting picks out a 1920s sgraffito mural by artist Oleguer Junyent that, the hotel says, is only visible from up here. The setting pairs an infinity pool (reserved for hotel guests) with Balinese beds, a cocktail bar and a restaurant, all looking out over the old town rooftops toward the Mediterranean. The kitchen leans Mediterranean and roams the whole sea: Cypriot halloumi, Egyptian hummus, Greek salad and gyros, Italian burrata and pizzeta, and Catalan and Spanish plates. Non-hotel guests are welcome from midday onward.
