The Roof crowns The Barcelona EDITION, the design hotel Ian Schrager opened in 2018 with Marriott in El Born, at the edge of the Ciutat Vella. It sits on the tenth floor, a terrace laid with iroko wood, sofas and sunbeds among bougainvillea and aromatic plants, wrapped around a small urban plunge pool. From up here the old city opens out: the low rooftops of the Born, the Gothic silhouette of Santa Maria del Mar, the wavy coloured roof of the Mercat de Santa Caterina next door, and the Mediterranean somewhere in the distance. A travertine marble cocktail bar anchors the space, pouring signature cocktails alongside natural juices, smoothies, kombuchas and mocktails, with a seasonal menu of small plates that folds Latin American cooking into Asian flavours.
