Background

About Fornet de la Soca

The Story

Fornet de la Soca is a traditional Mallorcan bakery that began as a small shop on Carrer de Sant Jaume in Palma, founded by Tomeu Arbona and María José Orero. As the business grew it needed more space, and it moved into the historic Forn des Teatre building on Plaça de Weyler in 2018, where it operates today. The bakery describes its own work as recovering and researching old Mallorcan baking traditions rather than following an industrial format. In the Guía Repsol's spring 2026 round of Soletes, the guide's recognition for casual, characterful spots worth a stop, Fornet de la Soca was named among the new Mallorca picks.

The Cuisine

The bakery specialises in traditional Mallorcan bread and pastry, including several ensaïmada formats (whole, individual and a potato version), cocarrois, flaó, savoury cocas and daily bread. The bakery's own online shop lists its full range with current prices; in-store selection on any given day can vary, and some items sell out.

The Team

Fornet de la Soca is run by baker Tomeu Arbona together with his wife María José Orero. The bakery previously ran a second location at Can Corbella, on Plaça de Cort, which opened in 2020 and closed in October 2022 so the business could concentrate on the Plaça de Weyler bakery.
