Background

About Bar Cabrera

The Story

Bar Cabrera traces back to 1964, when brothers Bartolomé and Pedro left Pozoblanco, in Córdoba, for Mallorca after a call from a relative already working on the island redirected a trip that was originally headed for Barcelona. The family settled in Palma, and in 1983 opened its first business, a café called Maralba. A decade later, in 1993, the family opened Bar Cabrera itself, which the venue's own history page describes as becoming "a meeting place for neighbours, workers and lovers of authentic Mallorcan pa amb oli." The site's homepage banner also carries the shorthand "since 1983," which appears to date the family's food-service history through Maralba rather than Bar Cabrera's own opening.

The Cuisine

The kitchen is built around pa amb oli, tomato-rubbed bread with olive oil that diners top with cured meats, cheeses or smoked and marinated fish, alongside tapas to share, grilled meats, and homemade desserts. A children's menu is also offered.

The Team

Run by the Cabrera family since 1993, now with a newer generation involved in the business alongside a second location, Cabrera Bis.
