Background

About Osaka Nikkei

The Story

Osaka began, by the group's telling, with two Diegos, Diego de la Puente and Diego Herrera, and a beach hut, which led to the first restaurant in Lima in 2002. Buenos Aires followed in 2005 and Santiago in 2008, and the group, now part of MCK Hospitality, has restaurants across Latin America and in Miami. Madrid, opened in October 2025, is its first in Europe, with an open kitchen that puts the grill on show.

The Cuisine

Nikkei cooking, the fusion of Japanese technique and Peruvian ingredients. The kitchen sends out modern, creative plates, and the attached Kero Bar builds pisco-based cocktails with Japanese touches such as yuzu, matcha and shiso, alongside sake.

From the Raw Bar to the Grill

The meal starts at the Nikkei raw bar: ceviches like the ceviche wasabi and tiraditos such as the Hotate Nissei with ají amarillo, avocado mayo and ikura. The Osaka-style nigiri add Nikkei sauces, like the Uchu Tuna with truffle and Peruvian chilies or the Niku with A5 wagyu, and the makimono run to rolls such as the Rocoto Aburi and the Antiku. The Peruvian izakaya section is for sharing: Tumbo Shrimp in lulo sauce, Tako Anticucho octopus with ají panca, and Pisco Ribs glazed with citrus honey. Then come the rice dishes, like a pato mochero and a wagyu chahan, and the grill, with a lobster misoyaki and the Osaka Steak. Desserts include the Amai Yume, with cherimoya, coconut cream and passion fruit.

Kero Bar

Kero Bar is the cocktail side, carrying the Nikkei mix into the glass with pisco and Japanese ingredients: the Sakura with Roku gin and soda, the Aka Sour with acholado pisco, cardamom and lime over chicha morada ice, and a Negroni Kunsei smoked with palo santo. There's sake too, and drinks built on shiso and seasonal Peruvian fruit. The group curates its own playlists, and music is part of the room's pitch.
