Background

About PerretxiCo Chueca

The Story

PerretxiCo is a group of Basque pintxos taverns, and this is its Chueca branch on Calle Augusto Figueroa, a minute from Plaza de Chueca. The kitchen reworks Basque classics as pintxos: the house says its donut de cocido earned the chef second place in the Concurso de Cocidos del Siglo XXI in 2019, and 'la vacuna', a fritter served with a syringe of its own juice, was created during the pandemic.

The Cuisine

Basque pintxos and raciones: gildas, the ensaladilla rusa with bonito del norte, tortilla manchada de bacalao al pil pil, txangurro a la donostiarra gratinado in its shell, anchoa Ortiz on brioche, the donut de cocido and 'la vacuna'. There's a menú del día at lunch and a tasting menu. The menu PDF is on the venue's own site, in Spanish.

Almagro is embassy Madrid: broad streets, old money, and a hush the rest of the centre does not have. The restaurants match, with polished rooms, careful service and kitchens that do not need to shout. It sits between Chueca and Salamanca without quite belonging to either.
