Li-Onna opened in October 2024 at Calle de Recoletos 1, the first restaurant in Spain from Mexico's Tanaka Hospitality, formed by Grupo Kampai and Mandala Group. Jalisco-born chef Gerardo Pineda runs a sharing menu of Japanese plates with Mexican accents: hamachi tacos wrapped in lettuce, toro tartare with mango, beef tataki with ponzu, corvina tempura and a long list of rolls and nigiri. The two-floor room is by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, with a cocktail bar and a sushi bar upstairs.

About Li-Onna

The Story

Li-Onna is a brand from Tanaka Hospitality, a Mexican group formed by joining Grupo Kampai, founded by Jorge Ureña, with Mandala Group, the Altamirano family's group, which together run more than forty venues in Mexico. Ricardo Altamirano of Mandala joined Kampai as partner and food director. The Recoletos restaurant, which opened in October 2024, is the group's first in Europe.

The Cuisine

Japanese cooking with Mexican and Latin American accents, built for sharing: tuna tostada, hamachi and cod tacos, beef tataki, cheese kushiage, salmon gochugaru, octopus anticucho, crispy mushroom salad, and rolls, makis and nigiri.

Experience

Li-Onna Dining Experience

The street-level room, designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán in velvet and mixed tones, has low tables, a long cocktail bar suited to tardeo and an L-shaped sushi bar. Downstairs is a more intimate, relaxed floor for groups wanting privacy; in summer 2026 it became Daruma by Li-Onna on Friday and Saturday nights, with dim lighting, music and a raw-bar menu.

Getting There

At the corner of Calle de Recoletos 1, just off Paseo de Recoletos, in the Recoletos area of Salamanca.

Nearby

Recoletos runs along the grand boulevards between Plaza de Cibeles and Puerta de Alcalá, where the buildings are stately and the pavements are wide. The eating leans formal and expense-account, with classic dining rooms sitting beside newer, sharper kitchens. It shades into Salamanca as you go east, and the prices follow.
