Background
About Casa Mingo
The Story
Casa Mingo has been pouring cider on Paseo de la Florida since 1888, and it calls itself the most typical sidrería in Madrid; the city's tourism service goes further and calls it the oldest. The building was a railway depot before it became a cider house, and the business still runs over two floors with two big terraces. It's open every day and it gets busy, so the house also packs food to take away, wrapped to travel hot.
The Cuisine
Roast chicken with the house's own cider is the order, alongside chorizo cooked in cider and Cabrales, the Asturian blue cheese. The cider is poured the Asturian way, from a height. Around that sit tapas and raciones such as croquetas and tortilla, rice pudding for afters, and cocido madrileño from Monday to Friday.

The décor is the old kind and stays that way: wood, barrels and bottles across two floors of what used to be a train depot, with two big terraces for the summer. It works for groups and families, with step-free access at the door and in the seating.

Questions
Casa Mingo FAQ
How old is Casa Mingo?
+
Its own site dates the business to 1888, and Madrid's tourism service calls it the oldest cider house in the city.
What do you eat at Casa Mingo?
+
Roast chicken with cider the house makes itself is the speciality, alongside raciones such as chorizo cooked in cider, Cabrales, callos, fabada and tortilla, and cocido madrileño Monday to Friday. A whole roast chicken costs €9.80 at the bar or €15.00 at a table.
Does Casa Mingo have a Michelin star?
+
No. It holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol, Repsol's everyday-recommendation mark, not a Sol or a Michelin distinction.
Where is Casa Mingo, and how do you get there?
+
Paseo de la Florida 34. Its own directions page names Príncipe Pío on metro line 6, and buses 41, 75 and 46.
When is Casa Mingo open?
+
Every day, late morning to midnight, with the kitchen running throughout.
Does Casa Mingo have a terrace and step-free access?
+
Yes to both: terraces, and a wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating.
Does Casa Mingo make its own cider?
+
Yes. It produces cider on site from Asturian Villaviciosa apples, only for its own customers, and pours it the Asturian way.
