The Story
Tapas 24 opened in 2006 on Carrer de la Diputació, just off Passeig de Gràcia, as a homage to the classic Barcelona tapas bar. The project is the work of chef Carles Abellán, who conceived it as a tribute to Catalan and Spanish popular gastronomy served without pretension all day long. Nearly two decades on, the original team still runs the room and the bar continues to serve food continuously through lunch and dinner.
The Cuisine
The menu leans on traditional Spanish tapas cooking with a few signature creations from Abellán. Classics include the ensaladilla rusa with tuna and crispy bread, the bikini of Ibérico ham, mozzarella and truffle, the MC Foie burger and bravas potatoes, alongside traditional plates such as beef cheek in red wine, cod with samfaina and grilled skirt steak. Seasonal eggs-from-Calaf dishes, fish-market fry-ups and cured Ibérico selections round out the offer.
The Team
Carles Abellán founded and created Tapas 24 and remains the menu's author and advisor, overseeing recipe development while the original operating team continues to run the restaurant day to day. The room centres on a long bar where cooks plate directly in view of diners, a deliberate echo of the traditional neighbourhood bars the project celebrates.
