Bodega Montferry has been feeding Sants since 1965, a narrow bodega on a quiet passage where wine barrels, chalkboard menus and bentwood chairs set the stage for oversized bocadillos and slow-cooked stews.

Background

About Bodega Montferry

The Story

Bodega Montferry opened in 1965 and spent almost five decades under the stewardship of Pere and Eva, a neighbourhood couple who built it into a fixture of Sants daily life. In 2013, Alberto, Marc and Raquel took over the business, preserving its identity as a traditional Catalan bodega while refreshing the sandwich list and adding creative bocadillo combinations. The wine barrels, chalkboard menus and classic bentwood chairs remain from the original space.

The Cuisine

The kitchen turns out Catalan comfort food at neighbourhood prices. The bocadillo list is the signature draw, oversized sandwiches priced around €4–7 that often serve as a full meal, including fillings such as botifarra with confit aubergine, fricandó, meatballs, pork ear and cap i pota. Slow-cooked stews (fricandó, albondigas, cap i pota amb cigrons) are served in full or half portions for sharing, and the conserva list runs the traditional route with anchovies, mussels, cockles and salt-cured tuna. Vermut is the drink of the house.

The Team

The bodega is run by Alberto, Marc and Raquel, who took over from the founding couple in 2013. The team keeps the operation small and personal, with the same owners visible behind the bar most services.

Experience

Bodega Montferry Dining Experience

Bodega Montferry keeps the atmosphere of a true Catalan neighbourhood bodega: wine barrels lining the walls, chalkboard menus, bentwood chairs, marble-topped tables and a small bar where regulars gather for vermut. The space is narrow and relaxed rather than polished, straightforward and unfussy, aimed at locals stopping in for a sandwich and a glass.
