Background

About 5 Hermanos Casa de Comidas

The Story

5 Hermanos Casa de Comidas traces its roots to the 1940s, when Juana Buixo (known as Juanita) founded Bar Janet Casa de Comidas on the same street in Canyelles. Renamed 4 Hermanos in 1977 by her daughter Teresa Feliu, the restaurant is now in its fourth generation under the five Gerpe brothers and their nephew Aitor -- hence the current name. A major renovation in spring 2025 by designer Pere Cortacans (who also redesigned Shunka) transformed the interior and introduced evening service for the first time. Barcelona calls it 'a succulent secret far from the centre' and awards it a perfect 5/5.

The Cuisine

The kitchen honours recipes inherited from grandmother Juanita and mother Teresa, delivering Catalan and Spanish classics with premium ingredients and refined technique while preserving the home-cooked character. Signature rice dishes are the centrepiece -- arroz de carabinero, arroz negro de gamba roja, arroz caldoso de bogavante -- alongside traditional dishes like canelones de rostit, callos con bacalao, cap i pota, and Galician octopus. The chuleton and solomillo with foie are popular mains.

The Team

The restaurant is run by the four Gerpe brothers -- Manel, Javi, Julio, and Jordi -- plus nephew Aitor, the fifth 'hermano'. Together they continue the family legacy started by their grandmother Juanita in the 1940s.
