Eugeni de Diego's new cervecería on Diagonal is named after a beer blend
Eugeni de Diego, ex-elBulli head chef and the guy behind Lombo and Colmado Wilmot, opened his third Barcelona spot at Avinguda Diagonal 640 in December 2025. The name nods to the classic 6:40 beer blend (Estrella Damm with Turia).
The house beer is a 60-40 blend of Estrella Damm and Turia, poured into Riedel glassware. That's where the name comes from. Cervecería 640 opened in December 2025 at Avinguda Diagonal 640, in the former Croma by Flash space facing Illa Diagonal. It's chef Eugeni de Diego's third Barcelona project after Lombo on Carrer Moliné 1 (2022) and the Colmado Wilmot grocery on Carrer Calvet 28 (2023). De Diego is a former head chef at elBulli and the author of two books, '¿Cómo cocina un chef en casa?' (Grijalbo) and 'Cocina como la Mamma' (Planeta Gastro).
The room, designed by Nacho Alegre (Apartament Studio) and Andi Llopis, runs from 8 AM to midnight. The 'Seis Cuarenta' (Six Forty) name refers directly to the house beer, and the Riedel glassware is chosen to enhance the blend's organoleptic qualities. De Diego cited Ciudad Condal on Rambla de Catalunya as the model.
The kitchen builds outward from a glass-display vitrine of cold dishes (ensaladilla, boiled shellfish, stuffed eggs with prawn, anchovies, oysters) onto a menu of classic Barcelona tapas and stews: bravas, croquetas, albóndigas, cap i pota, tortilla, macarrones, calamari Orly, empanada gallega, pickled sardines, zamburiñas, and mini cubano sandwiches. The tortilla follows the Colmado Wilmot recipe. Desserts include flan, natillas con galleta María, and brazo de gitano. Average ticket lands around €30 to €40.
De Diego framed the project like this: 'Quería recuperar la alegría del bar, el buen rollo de una cervecería' ('I wanted to recover the joy of the bar, the good vibes of a cervecería').
