About El Avenida Palace
El Avenida Palace opened in 1952 on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, on a site that had earlier held the Casa Llibre tea room and, before that, a run of cinemas dating to the 1910s. Architect Josep Maria Sagnier led the hotel's design; his father, Enric Sagnier, had designed the earlier Casa Llibre building on the same plot. Juan Gaspart Bonet acquired the property in 1948, together with the Gimferrer family, to build the hotel. It holds Biosphere sustainability certification.
