Biography

Early years

Bao trained at Le Cordon Bleu Shanghai — the institution where he deepened the Chinese culinary techniques and traditions that he later brought to his projects in Spain.

Career

With his sister María Li Bao, Felipe runs the China Crown group — more than 20 restaurants across Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, and Toledo. China Crown Barcelona occupies Casa Calvet, the modernista building designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1900, and combines imperial Chinese tradition with creativity and haute-gastronomic technique. The restaurant was named Europe's Best Chinese Cuisine Restaurant by the World Culinary Awards in 2025.

Philosophy

Bao's project sets out to present imperial Chinese cuisine — Cantonese, Pekinese, and beyond — at fine-dining level. The China Crown registers regional Chinese tradition translated through European service and the architectural settings each restaurant occupies.
