Ponderosa Beach in Muro named the Balearics' most sustainable coastal restaurant
Ecovidrio named Ponderosa Beach, the beach restaurant on Platja de Muro, the most sustainable coastal hospitality business in the Balearic Islands, in the seventh edition of its Movimiento Banderas Verdes campaign. The restaurant has held ISO 14001 certification since 2020 and sources 12.7% of its products regionally, well above the 3% legal minimum.
Ponderosa Beach, the rice-and-paella restaurant on the sand at Platja de Muro, is the most sustainable coastal restaurant in the Balearic Islands according to Ecovidrio, the glass-recycling body. It won the regional prize in the seventh edition of Ecovidrio's #MovimientoBanderasVerdes (Green Flags Movement), chosen from around 2,500 hospitality businesses across 27 Balearic municipalities (Última Hora; ECOticias).
The recognition rests on paperwork most beach clubs skip. Ponderosa Beach has held ISO 14001 environmental certification since 2020 and carries the Plastic Free Balearics label, and it tracks its own water use and greenhouse gas emissions to find places to cut back (Última Hora; Residuos Profesional). It also sources 12.7% of what it serves from Balearic producers, more than four times the 3% regional-product minimum set by local rules (Última Hora; ECOticias).
Ecovidrio picked Ponderosa Beach as one of nine winners along the Spanish coast this year, alongside restaurants in Girona, Tarragona, Alicante, Valencia, Cádiz, Huelva, Granada and Murcia. The wider campaign covered five regions in 2026, Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and Murcia, pulling in more than 12,000 hospitality businesses across over 120 coastal municipalities (Última Hora).
On the plates, Ponderosa Beach is known for arroces de autor, author rice dishes and paella from chef Kike Martí, built on regional seafood and local rice.
