About Melgar

The Story

Restaurante Melgar opened in early 1973 on the bank of the Río Manzanares, next to the Puente de Toledo, and has run as a seafood restaurant ever since.

The Cuisine

A marisquería: shellfish by weight, cooked or grilled, alongside Spanish sharing plates, rice dishes, fish and grilled meat.

Shellfish and platters

Huelva white prawns, Sanlúcar langoustines and Huelva cigalas are €15 per 100 g, and Costa de la Luz carabineros €18.50; Galician razor clams are €17.50 for six and Cantabrian lobster is at market price. All shellfish can be boiled or grilled. Two platters for two cost €88 each: a boiled mariscada with spider crab or brown crab, prawns, langoustines, cigalas and oysters, and a grilled parrillada with cigalas, prawns, carabineros, Atlantic gambón, razor clams and zamburiñas.

Sharing plates, rice and fish

To share there are Iberian ham and lomo (€27.50), Galician-style octopus, Galician clams with palo cortado, zamburiñas with garlic and parsley, salpicón de marisco and a fritura of squid, anchovies and adobo. Rice dishes and fideuá are for a minimum of two, from €22 per person for black rice with cuttlefish to €27 for carabinero or lobster rice. Fish runs to hake, baked cod, grilled monkfish, sea bass and turbot (€22.50 to €27.50), and meat to aged beef chuletón by the kilo.
