La Alegría has been feeding Villaverde Alto since 1988, when Francisco Serradilla and Rosa María, a couple from the province of Cáceres, opened it on Calle del Doctor Criado, and it holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol. It's a casa de comidas with Extremaduran roots: the Guía Repsol singles out the Torta del Casar with pimentón de la Vera and the violet ice cream. There's a bar with high tables, a larger dining room with tablecloths and a terrace, and it calls its style 'the art of eating like at home'.

Background

About La Alegría

The Story

Francisco Serradilla and Rosa María opened La Alegría in Villaverde in 1988. According to a 2024 visit write-up, the couple came from Cañamero, in Cáceres, started out selling products from their home region and then turned the business into a restaurant, which their sons Jorge and Rubén run today. The Instagram account goes by Restaurante Serradilla La Alegría, after the family name. It holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol, awarded in the guide's 2022 neighbourhood round.

The Cuisine

Home cooking with an Extremaduran accent: cheeses and pimentón from the region, raciones, and dishes cooked the way a family kitchen would make them. The bodega side means a good stock of wines to go with it.

What to Order

The Guía Repsol's picks are the Torta del Casar, the soft sheep's-milk cheese from Cáceres, served with pimentón de la Vera, and the violet ice cream for dessert. The ensaladilla, finished with a piparra, also gets mentioned. Raciones and dishes for sharing suit the bar, while the dining room is set up for a full meal.

Hours and Booking

La Alegría opens from 12:00 Tuesday to Sunday. It closes at 19:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, and stays open until midnight from Thursday to Saturday; it's closed on Monday. Reservations are taken by phone.
