According to El País, the story began in 1964 at Calle de las Infantas 5, when the family took over a cafeteria already called Zara. It became a restaurant in 1978 and moved to Barbieri 8 in 2014. The founders, Inés Llanos and José "Pepe" Martínez, died of covid in February 2021.
If you want a last meal at Zara, the classics are still on: ropa vieja, yuca frita, avocado salad, picadillo and congrí. You have until 17 October.
