Background
About Rasoterra
The Story
Rasoterra opened in the Barri Gòtic in 2013, founded by Chiara, Daniele and Guillem as one of Barcelona's first serious plant-based bistrots, inspired by the Slow Food movement and a commitment to local, responsibly grown ingredients. It went fully plant-based in 2020, building a reputation for seasonal cooking that drew vegetarians, vegans and curious omnivores alike. TV3's Joc de Cartes and La Sexta's El Comidista have both named it among Spain's best vegetarian addresses.
The Cuisine
The kitchen, led by Alicante-born chef Adriana Carcelén, works from a single fixed-price menu (aperitif, starter, main, dessert) that changes often with the rhythm of nearby farms and gardens. Dishes draw on Catalan and Mediterranean traditions reimagined without animal products: calçots with quince romesco, arròs de Pals with asparagus and oyster mushrooms, smoked celery flan with carrot soup, sweet potato gnocchi with leeks and broad beans, an ode to extra-virgin olive oil. Most of the menu is gluten-free and everything is vegan.
The Team
Rasoterra was founded by Chiara, Daniele and Guillem, three Slow Food-minded hospitality veterans who opened the restaurant in 2013. The kitchen is led by chef Adriana Carcelén from Alicante, and the house places equal weight on fair wages, humane schedules and long relationships with the small producers whose vegetables, pulses, grains and natural wines define the menu.

How to Book Rasoterra
Booking
Rasoterra serves dinner Wednesday through Saturday and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, with a single fixed menu format. The intimate Gothic Quarter dining room fills quickly, especially for weekend lunch, so advance booking is strongly recommended. Tables are held for the whole party and the menu is designed to be shared.

Experience
Rasoterra Dining Experience
A warm, bistrot-style dining room with wooden tables, mismatched art, natural-wine bottles on the sideboard and big windows looking onto a narrow Gothic Quarter lane. The vibe is unhurried, conversational and distinctly neighbourhood, more Slow Food canteen than fine-dining theatre.

Rasoterra Location & Neighbourhood
Getting There
Rasoterra sits on Carrer del Palau in the heart of Barcelona's Barri Gòtic, a quiet lane a few minutes from Plaça Sant Jaume and Jaume I metro. The medieval streets around the restaurant connect easily to the cathedral, Plaça Reial and the waterfront, making it a natural stop on a day spent exploring the old city.
Nearby
The Barri Gòtic is Barcelona's medieval core, a dense grid of narrow streets south of Plaça de Catalunya that holds the cathedral, Roman walls and Plaça Reial. Carrer del Palau sits on the quieter southern edge, between Plaça Sant Jaume and the waterfront, where small galleries, natural-wine bars and independent shops sit alongside historic landmarks.

How often does the menu at Rasoterra change?
+
The carta changes frequently depending on what local producers are bringing in. Yes. Rasoterra is listed in the Raisin natural-wine guide and has been pouring low- and no-sulphite wines from small independent producers for years. The pairing option is built around those wines and includes a non-alcoholic equivalent for diners who prefer kombuchas, organic soft drinks and microfiltered water.
