Majide is the fourth Barcelona venture from the Shunka group, opened in 2016 on Carrer dels Tallers under chef Hideki Matsuhisa. The menu focuses on sushi, sashimi, tempura, and classic Japanese rice and noodle dishes, with a counter built around a fully open kitchen where diners watch the chefs work.

Background

About Majide

The Story

Majide opened in 2016 on Carrer dels Tallers in el Raval as the fourth Barcelona restaurant from the Shunka group, the team behind Shunka and the Michelin-starred Koy Shunka. It is built as a more relaxed and budget-friendly counterpart to its sister venues, centred on a long bar that runs the length of an open kitchen. Chef Hideki Matsuhisa leads the kitchen.

The Cuisine

The menu covers sushi and sashimi, Japanese salads and appetisers, udon and yakisoba noodles, rice dishes, tempura, and cooked meat and fish preparations. The kitchen works in a traditional Japanese register, sourcing seafood as the central ingredient. A wine list accompanies the food.

The Team

Chef Hideki Matsuhisa, the head of the Shunka group, leads the project. The kitchen brigade works in full view of guests along the counter, with cooks handling sushi, grill, and fried stations side by side.

How to Book Majide

Booking

Majide serves lunch Tuesday through Sunday and dinner Tuesday through Saturday; it is closed on Mondays. Reservations are recommended, especially for a seat at the counter facing the open kitchen, and can be booked via the restaurant's website. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and accepts credit cards, debit cards, and contactless payments.

Experience

Majide Dining Experience

The dining room is centred on a long wooden counter that faces directly into the open kitchen. Pale wood chairs and tables, warm overhead lighting, and a wine wall visible through vertical wood slats give the space a calm, pared-back Japanese feel. The counter is the recommended seat, putting guests directly in front of the chefs at work.
