Background

About Gouthier

The Story

Gouthier opened in 1998 as Barcelona's first oyster bar, founded by Silvia Perpina and Ricardo Alabart. The couple pioneered oyster culture in Barcelona, sourcing from their own oyster farm in Marennes-Oleron in southwestern France, as well as from Normandy, Brittany, Ireland, and Spain's Ebro Delta. They hold a registered trademark for 'Gouthier' oysters and supply many of Barcelona's top restaurants. Over time, the concept expanded from a pure oyster bar to a full gastro bar with a Mediterranean menu.

The Cuisine

Chef Pedro Asensio, formerly of Bodega 1900 under Albert Adria, designed the Mediterranean menu that complements the oysters. Over 10 varieties of oysters are available, including the house Gouthier brand, Fine de Claire, Spéciale de Claire, Esmeralda and Pousse en Claire from Marennes-Oléron, and Spéciale from Galway in Ireland. The menu features foie mi-cuit terrine, carpaccio de gamba roja, pulpo de Cap de Creus with hummus and ibérico pork fat, cockle ceviche, steak tartare, and an extensive French wine and champagne selection. Around 50 EUR per person without drinks.

The Team

Owners Silvia Perpina and Ricardo Alabart run the operation, with chef Pedro Asensio (ex-Bodega 1900) in the kitchen and sommelier Jordi Sancho curating the wine program.
