Background
About Bar El Rincón Sevillano
The Story
Bar El Rincón Sevillano has been an El Carmel fixture for nearly fifty years. As ARA tells it, Juan and Mercedes bought the bar by selling their flat, and it's stayed in the family since. There's a well-known photo behind the bar of Jordi with his friend Fluren Ferrer and Kurt Cobain, taken at a Nirvana concert in Barcelona in the nineties, lost for years and recently recovered. Green-and-white checked tablecloths and the green of Betis fill the room, and, in ARA's words, it feels like fifty years haven't changed a thing.
The Cuisine
This is Andalusian and Spanish home cooking: a €13.50 menú del día running dishes like callos (tripe), codillo al horno (roast pork knuckle), calamares a la andaluza, gazpacho and mejillones, per ARA. The bar opens early, from 6am on weekdays, for the neighbourhood's workers.
The Team
The bar was bought nearly fifty years ago by Juan and Mercedes, and is now run by Jordi and Laura Rincón along with Míriam Lopera, who have kept it going since the founders retired, according to ARA.
