Biography
Early years
Miguel Ángel is the son of Rodrigo De Andrés, who co-founded Casa Rafa in 1958 with his older brother, Rafael De Andrés. Rafael had left their hometown, Aguilar de Anguita in Guadalajara, at age 14 to work in Madrid's hospitality trade, and the two brothers opened their bar beside the offices of the newspaper Diario Pueblo, whose staff became early regulars.
Career
Miguel Ángel now co-runs Casa Rafa with his cousin Rafa De Andrés, the two representing the second generation of the family at the restaurant. In October 2024, the De Andrés family received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academia Madrileña de Gastronomía, at the VIII Premios de Gastronomía de la Comunidad de Madrid, in recognition of the restaurant's decades of service to the city.
