Biography

Early years

García is a Marbella-born chef whose modern reinterpretation of Andalusian cuisine has been the through-line of his career.

Career

In 2014 García opened Dani García Restaurante in Marbella, which reached three Michelin stars in 2019 — a first for Andalusian cuisine. Weeks later he chose to close the restaurant and rebuild his work around a more accessible model. The Leña concept — wood-fire-led contemporary cooking — opened first at Puente Romano Resort in Marbella (2020) and was named the most beautiful restaurant in the world by the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in 2021. Leña Madrid followed in 2021, Leña Dubai in 2023, and Leña Barcelona in 2024. His Madrid project Smoked Room earned two Michelin stars in 2021, just six months after opening.

Philosophy

García's post-three-star era is built around taking what he learned in fine dining and reapplying it to a more direct register — wood fire, product respect, accessible price point. Leña is the signature expression: a single open grill at the centre of the dining room, served to a much wider audience than the tasting-menu format he chose to leave.
