Early years
Muñío trained as a pastry chef before crossing over to the savoury kitchen. He joined Carles Abellan's Comerç 24 in Barcelona as a pastry chef and was promoted to head chef within a year, helping the restaurant maintain its Michelin star.
Career
Muñío spent roughly ten years at Comerç 24 as head chef before opening DIREKTE Boqueria — a six-seat counter inside La Boqueria market, in a space that had originally been Carles Abellan's. The format brought guests directly into the cooking, with short and long tasting menus served from a tiny stove. After seven years inside the market — described in his own words as the cook 'who left with the last lifeboat from a sinking ship' as La Boqueria changed — Muñío moved the restaurant to a larger space on Carrer de París in la Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, keeping the DIREKTE name. The restaurant carries one Repsol Sol.
Philosophy
Muñío fuses deep-rooted Catalan cooking with Mediterranean and Asian ingredients. The menus — a 7-course short and a 10-course long — stay built around local, seasonal product and the kitchen-counter intimacy that defined the original Boqueria space.
