Davide Bortone places two Binissalem wines at the top of a tasting of 139 Mallorcan wines

Italian wine journalist Davide Bortone tasted 139 wines from across Mallorca's three quality seals, DO Binissalem, DO Pla i Llevant and IGP Mallorca, in a session held on 18 and 19 August 2026. DO Binissalem entered 12 of those wines, and two of them took the tasting's highest scores: Raf 110 2022 from Vins Nadal and Supernova Negre 2025 from Can Verdura Viticultors. Across its 12-wine selection, the appellation averaged 89.17 out of 100, with four labels reaching at least 90 points.

In his assessment of the wider Mallorcan field, Bortone singled out the island's local grape varieties, citing Mantonegro, Callet, Prensal Blanc and Gargollassa as central to its wine identity: "un elemento que distingue Mallorca de cualquier región mediterránea o internacional" ("an element that distinguishes Mallorca from any Mediterranean or international region"). He added that international varieties grown on the island "pierden sus rasgos más comunes para expresar el terruño" ("lose their most common traits in order to express the terroir").

On the wines themselves, Bortone said Mallorca's whites, rosés and reds "se desenvuelven a la perfección en esta zona" ("handle themselves perfectly in this area"), a character he tied to what he called the island's "típico carácter mediterráneo mallorquín" ("typical Mediterranean Mallorcan character").
