Can Xus, the family restaurant in a 19th-century masia at Carrer d'Horta 41, served its last lunch on Sunday 30 August after nearly 40 years. It opened in 1988, and owners Glòria and Manel are retiring with no generational succession to carry it on.
It was a place for Catalan home cooking built on meat and fish: calamars a la romana, bacallà a la sidra, and grilled meats including an Iberian ham-stuffed loin, duck breast and Girona ribeye, plus weekday lunch menus. The couple kept the same suppliers all the way through, betevé reported.
"Ens quedem amb les persones i els moments que hem viscut, són el que realment ens endurem" ("What we're keeping are the people and the moments we lived; that's what we're really taking with us"), the owners said. The masia is now for sale, and they hope it becomes a new business or, if possible, a family home.
